Weekenders Group
This Group would be run by the members themselves. The purpose is to provide a social event or meeting for members to get together. Each week a different member would organise an activity until all members have organised something.
Attendance is entirely voluntary. Any activity or event should not be to costly to attend.
This proposed Group is a response to the often heard comment that the U3A provides activities during the week but not at weekends or in the summer, which can be very lonely, particularly for those who have lost a partner.
Possible events/ideas
- Meeting at a restaurant or pub for lunch/dinner at reasonable price (less than £9.00)
- Going on a picnic in the rain or sun
- Meeting at a member’s house for tea and chat
- Going for a walk
- Visiting a garden centre
- Visiting an old building/castle
- Visiting the seaside/country/town/village
- Going to a Theatre eg Basingstoke, Woking or Guildford
- A trip on the Basingstoke canal
- Attending an advertised event (such as the Army show or an exhibition)
- Visiting a museum (eg Aldershot or Milestones)
- Going to a car boot sale (eg at one of the schools)
- Visiting a gym
- Going on a bus trip (free)
- Going for a drink and chat at a pub/cafe
- Going swimming (soon to be free)
- Going on a visit (maybe sharing a car or organising a small coach from Hart Voluntary Services)
There must be many more activities that our members can think of.
