U3A Genetics Study Day
There is a Study Day on Genetics being held at The Maltings in Farnham on 11th October 2011 at a cost of £7 per person. This is being organised by the Southern Region Network of U3As, which includes ours. A poster giving full details and an application form can be downloaded here.
Visits Group
A volunteer is required to assist with arrangements for visits and holidays. No previous experience required, just enthusiasm for travel to places of interest. Hours to suit.
Map of our Meeting Venues
We have an interactive map which shows all the venues where our groups meet in the Fleet & District area. (A recent problem with the display has now been resolved).
Group attendance fees
The Committee have agreed that an attendance fee of fifty pence should be charged for any group that meets for an hour or less. For groups who meet for more than hour the fee will remain at £1.
Group Information / Amendments
Details of changes to Group meetings, etc., can be found in the Monthly Newsletter which is available online to logged-in registered members of Fleet U3A.
Steam & Transport Group
Unfortunately the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 19 October has been cancelled because the room is required for a funeral wake. The speaker for that date, John Harrison, will now give his talk on the Settle and Carlisle line on Wednesday, 7th December. The next meeting of the group will will now be, as advertised, on Wednesday 16 November at 2:30 pm when Henry Gunston will talk about East African Railways.
Reading Group
The book to be discussed at the meeting on 5th October will be The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.
Rummikub Group
Rummikub is a game played with tiles (similar to Scrabble) but with numbers. It is a strategy game which is easy to learn and a challenge to master! A good memory is not needed, but it makes you use your brain. A partner is not needed.
The group meets on the third Sunday of the month at 2 pm in the Red Cross Centre, Clarence Road, Fleet. New member are welcome. Contact Jo Preece (615578) or Barbara Bellmore (786150).
